Have you got a sudden water leak or burst pipe? Maybe you just want to know what to do incase it happens to you, not knowing to make your emergency alot more expensive.
The first thing to remember is to Never Panic! This can make the whole problem alot harder to manage.
The first thing you should do is stop the water getting to the point of the water leak. You can do this by turning of the main water inlet into your property (sometimes called stop cocks). This valve is most often sited under the kitchen sink but could be located in a different place. (you should take note of where this is sited for future reference).
If you can't locate the stop cock or there isn’t an internal valve, turn on all your COLD water outlets in the house (bath tap, sink tap etc) this will slow the water leak/burst until you locate your main water stop cock.
Then try and find the external water valve which may be under a cover in your garden, path or pavement outside your property.
If the escaping water cannot be controlled immediately, Turn off the central heating system and, if it uses a solid fuel boiler, allow the fire to die out. Switch off any electric immersion heater, then call Property-Servs'24 hour emergency plumbers on 0151 542 5051 for assistance.
